Colorado County Election Office attends 2023 County Elections Academy

GEORGETOWN – Election Administrator Rebecka LaCourse and Voting Systems Clerk Cody Nance joined colleagues from around the state at the Texas Association of Counties’ 2023 County Elections Academy in Georgetown from April 2-4.

GEORGETOWN — Election Administrator Rebecka LaCourse and Voting Systems Clerk Cody Nance joined colleagues from around the state at the Texas Association of Counties’ 2023 County Elections Academy in Georgetown from April 2-4.

The academy provided county officials with the training and resources they need to run efficient and secure elections.

“Elections are a core function of county government,” TAC Executive Director Susan M. Redford said. “The County Elections Academy gives county officials the opportunity to learn from their peers in public service to achieve better solutions for all Texans.”

County officials, experts with the Texas Secretary of State’s office and others shared best practices on a range of topics, including election budgeting, staffing requirements for polling places, voter registration, voting by mail and records management, according to a release. The V.G. Young Institute of County Government, a part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, cosponsored the educational conference with the Texas Association of Counties.

“Networking with other counties, and having standardized training along with centralized resources for election officials is another opportunity for Colorado County to ensure voter confidence,” LaCourse said.

TAC hosted the inaugural County Elections Academy in October as counties prepared for November’s general election. April’s gathering occurred with several local elections scheduled for May 6 and with the Texas Legislature currently in session and considering new election laws, according to a release.
