The Wildcats have tightened up their efforts this season after entering the district portion of their schedule. In six district games, they have lost only two as they have stayed near the top of the district standings. The start of last week slowed down Weimar’s efforts to chase a district championship after they suffered a tough loss to the Shiner Comanches. However, the Wildcats were able to respond with a huge win over Bloomington, a team near the bottom of the district standings.
Vs Shiner, L, 10-3
Weimar’s first game of the week came against one of the teams expected to finish near the top of the standings and claim a postseason spot. Shiner had a game reflective of their position in the standings as they quickly created a lead that they maintained through the rest of the game. Through six innings, the Comanches scored eight runs on eight hits while constantly applying pressure to the Wildcat defense.
Offensively, Weston Pavlik came in with the big swing of the night with a double for the team’s only extra-base hit of the game. Hudson Ervin, Wyatt Lacina and Clayton Zinnante each added a hit for the Wildcats as well despite the team not finding a way to get back into the game.
Head Coach Colton Maiorka mentioned that their performance was not reflective of a Wildcat team at the top of their game, saying “we didn’t play up to our standard tonight and it showed. We have to be better in every aspect of the game.”
Vs Bloomington, W, 18-0
Weimar took care of business against the Bobcats by flooding the outfield with extra-base hits and bringing in a train of runners on the base path. Bloomington’s pitching and fielding fed the Wildcats for one of their best hitting nights of the season. Weimar found success from the top to the bottom of the lineup as several players finished with multiple hits before the officials called a mercy-rule victory at the end of the fourth inning.
Starting pitcher Brady Henke had a solid day on the mound with five strikeouts in just two innings, but he was even better at the plate with a hit in all four of his at-bats including a double. Hudson Ervin was nearly perfect himself after picking up three hits in four attempts with a big triple as well. Ethan Stech got a knock for a triple as well with one of his two hits, and he took the team lead for RBIs by batting in three runs for the offense. Weston Pavlik, Huxton Kloesel and Wyatt Lacina combined for six RBIs with two apiece and finished the game going a combined 7-12 at the plate.
