The Weimar varsity softball team is in the midst of their strongest stretch of performances this season as they rode a 10-game win streak to the second-place spot in the district standings. After beating Shiner, the team just behind the Ladycats in the standings, as well as another strong win to end the week, Weimar took the runner up position with a great opportunity to shoot up to first place before the end of district season. The Ladycats may like their chances as part of their win streak included a 9-run shutout victory against the first-place Ganado Lady Indians. They will get a chance to potentially claim the top spot after their game against Ganado on Thursday, April 6.
Vs Shiner, W, 11-4
The Ladycats had a much different performance compared to their previous loss to Shiner that gave them their lone district defeat. After falling in the previous game 13-4, Weimar responded well to tie the season series at one win apiece. Despite another solid outing from Reagan Wick who pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts, it was a high-octane offensive game as both teams had at least eight hits on the board. The Ladycats had a 9-8 advantage over their opponents at the plate. They also had an advantage on the field as they benefitted from four Shiner errors along with clean play on their own defensive possessions.
Shiner opened the game with a run in the first inning and followed up with a three-run inning in the third before being shut down for the final four innings. At the same time, the Ladycats were running up the lead with runs in fivestraight innings following a scoreless first, including a game-high six runs in the second to take a lead they never relinquished.
Hannah Fishbeck finished with some of the best hitting numbers after her two hits brought in three runs for the offense.
Vs Bloomington, W, 17-0 Weimar did not have to sweat much over the result against the Bloomington Lady Cats as the mercy-rule victory came into effect after the third inning. The Ladycats dominated from the opening pitch as they finished with 15 hits and got a no-hitter performance from Taylor Smith on the mound. Smith finished with eight strikeouts as Weimar held their sixth district opponent to a shutout. Weimar opened the first inning with six runs before following with an impressive 11 runs in the second to put the game away. Hannah Fishbeck once again turned two hits into three RBIs along with Kaelyn Williams who had three RBIs as well as a team-leading three hits.
