Weimar T&F compete at Bulldog Relays

FLATONIA – The track and field team for Weimar is attempting to get some momentum as they inch closer to the ever-important district meet where many of Weimar’s competitors found success last season. They will be hoping their last outing in the Bulldog Relays will help them continue their improvement after both the girls’ and the boys’ teams finished with multiple top-3 finishers and strong placements. The boys finished with medals in two events, while the girls picked up four medals including Weimar’s lone gold medal of the competition.

The Wildcats picked up a number of top-5 finishes despite just missing out on a medal in several events. Jabraelin Thomas just missed out on a bronze in the 100m dash with a fourth-place finish in the event. Dakota Ford made the top five in both the 110m and 300m hurdles races with fifth place in the shorter hurdles and a silver medal in the longer distance race. Derek Rees finished just behind his teammate with a sixth-place finish in the 110m hurdles. The boys claimed their only other medal in the 4X200 relay, in which they claimed the bronze after Zachary Norrell, Huxton Kloesel, Brady Henke and Thomas combined their efforts to take a top-3 spot.

The Ladycats also had a good number of top performances on their side of the tournament. They claimed every one of their medals in the field events as they had their best performances off of the track. The pole vault proved to be a crucial event for Weimar as Katharina Chaloupka claimed the gold and teammate Delaney Turlington claimed the silver. Rylee Noska took third place in the high jump competition while Neorri Johnson took a bronze as well in the shot-put toss. Johnson nearly claimed another medal with a fourth-place finish in the discus throw event. Olivia Cabrera took a top-five performance in the 100m dash with fourth place, while Chaloupka claimed the team’s final top five performance with fifth place in the 800m run.
