The Columbus varsity tennis team had plenty to be happy about following some strong performances in the district meet that ended with a few Cardinals qualifying for Regionals. With several medals after top-three finishes, Columbus had one of their best meets of the season at a crucial time during championship season.

Senior Madyson carter had one of the biggest stories of the event after taking first place in the girls’ singles tournament. It marked her second-straight district championship after claiming the gold medal last year as well.

Carter will not be alone when she takes on the regional meet in the coming weeks as her fellow Cardinals also had quality outings on the court. Camden Pitchford and Jesus Mendoza also qualified for Regionals after a silver medal performance in the boys’ doubles event. Bailey Gustus and Isacc Vega just missed out on a regional qualification with a bronze medal in the Mixed Doubles tournament, and Sage Thomas finished as the second Lady Card in the top five of the girls’ singles competition with fourth place.
