County Appraisal District hires chief appraiser

The Board of Directors of the Colorado County Appraisal District has announced that Mark Price has accepted the position of Chief Appraiser of the District on March 28.

The Board of Directors of the Colorado County Appraisal District has announced that Mark Price has accepted the position of Chief Appraiser of the District on March 28.

Price has been in property tax appraisal for 38 years. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Economics. Price was employed by the Travis Central Appraisal District for 23 years, serving as a Business Personal Property Appraiser, Director of Business Personal Property and Director of Real Property Appraisal. He returned to Brazos County as the Chief Appraiser for the Brazos Central Appraisal District in January 2008 and retired in December 2021.

Price has been married to his wife, Mary Lou for 43 years. They have three sons, two grandsons and a granddaughter. Two of their sons are married and live in Austin. They also have a son who lives in College Station.

Mary Lou Price is the daughter of Mildred Berger Kalinec and granddaughter of Joe and Emma Berger. According to a release, she spent many days visiting her grandparents on their farm just south of Weimar. In 2020, Mark and Mary Lou Price purchased the remaining 15 acres of the original farm from her brother and are currently renovating the property as their new home.

The board said it is looking forward to working with Price.
