Back-to-back shutout wins for Weimar includes no-hitter

The Weimar Ladycats’ impressive run this season continued with another pair of blowout victories last week against district opponents. The Ladycats showed their dominance as they not only scored into double digits in both outings, but they also did not allow a single run from either opponent as they ran out to huge wins. The Weimar Ladycats’ impressive run this season continued with another pair of blowout victories last week against district opponents. The Ladycats showed their dominance as they not only scored into double digits in both outings, but they also did not allow a single run from either opponent as they ran out to huge wins. Weimar got strong performances from Taylor Smith and Reagan Wick on the mound as the Ladycats had one of their best weeks of the season so far.

Vs Louise, W, 17-0

Weimar did not have to wait long for their victory over the Lady Hornets to be official. The teams played only three innings before the double- digit, mercy rule came into effect and finalized the result. The Ladycats opened with a big fourrun first inning to create an early lead. It was the second inning that put the game to bed for Weimar. The offense created 13 runs in the top of the second to create the double- digit lead as they cycled through the lineup and peppered Louise with hits in the outfield. Kylie Helmcamp and Kaelyn Williams had great outings at the plate with four RBIs apiece that helped the Ladycats build the lead quickly. Williams and Claire Pavlu led the team with two hits each.

Taylor Smith took the mound against the Lady Hornets and helped lead Weimar to the shutout victory. She picked up six strikeouts in just three innings of work as she kept Louise without a single hit to add a no-hitter win to her starting record.

Vs Flatonia, W, 16-0

The Ladycats had to play one more inning than in their bout against Louise earlier in the week, but they had a similar level of dominance as they shut out the Flatonia Bulldogettes. Weimar opened the game on fire offensively. They scored five runs in the first, four runs in the second and a gamehigh six runs in the third to put a comeback out of reach for their opponents. After scoring another goal in the bottom of the fourth inning, they once again forced a mercy-rule decision by the officials. The Ladycats once again found success from the top to the bottom of their lineup as they ran out to their ninth double-digit scoring game of the season.

Taylor Smith had an impactful game for the Ladycats against Flatonia. She had three hits that led to a team-leading five RBIs including the big swing of the day with a base-clearing homerun. Kylie Helmcamp led the team in hits with four, and Hannah Fisbeck batted in two runs from her two hits in the game.

Starting pitcher Reagan Wick had a dominant game on the mound as she nearly came away with the week’s second no-hitter. Wick and the defense held Flatonia to just one hit in four innings of work. Wick finished with nine strikeouts as her ability to punch batters out at the plate was on full display.
