Colorado County powerlifting boys represent at State

ABILENE – All three schools in Colorado County had representatives in the UIL State Championship Meet for powerlifting last weekend. Jesse Reip represented Columbus, John Mendoza for the Raiders and Dakota Ford for the Wildcats as they each advanced following strong performances in their respective regional meets.

ABILENE – All three schools in Colorado County had representatives in the UIL State Championship Meet for powerlifting last weekend. Jesse Reip represented Columbus, John Mendoza for the Raiders and Dakota Ford for the Wildcats as they each advanced following strong performances in their respective regional meets.

Mendoza had the highest placement of the group with a top-five finish in his weight class. His top event was the squat, in which he lifted 405 for a three-way tie for the third-heaviest lift. He lifted over one thousand pounds and finished with a tie at 1,020 lbs. with the fourth-place finisher.

Reip came in sixth place for his weight class which was in the top half of competitors for the class. He lifted for over 14 hundred pounds throughout all of his recorded events, finishing with one of the top three heaviest lifts in both the squat and the bench press.

Ford took a top-10 state placement after claiming ninth place for the Wildcats. He lifted for a total of 865 lbs. and was just five pounds away from matching the competitor just ahead of him in the standings.
