Lady Cards’ soccer falls in Bi-District playoff round

BAY CITY – The Lady Cards’ soccer team made it to the postseason after having the best season in the program’s history. At 17 wins, seven losses and four ties, their best record in history led to their highest district placement as well. The second-place finishers in the district reached these accolades with an impressive defense as well as standout playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. Their defensive effectiveness continued with a solid performance against the Brazosport Lady Exporters in Round 1, but their offense could not support their efforts defensively as they just missed out on a few opportunities that stifled their efforts. After a hardfought game, the Lady Cards bowed out of the postseason in the Bi-District championship round after a 1-0 loss.

The first half for Columbus was reflective of two teams that were already familiar after several tight games against each other earlier in the season. Neither team could get much meaningful momentum towards the goal. After a scoreless first half, the Lady Exporters broke the scoring open with a goal early in the second half. The Lady Cards created a few more chances throughout the second half as they attempted to tie the game late. However, they could not slot home any of their chances despite the increased offensive production.
