Ladycats split two most recent games

The Weimar Ladycats matched up against the Shiner Lady Comanches and the Flatonia Lady Dogs, picking up one win and one loss.

Both of these games were district games so wins matter, especially at this point in the season.

Vs. Shiner, L, 10-5

In their first game the Ladycats took on the Shiner Lady Comanches on their home field in Weimar. The game was held scoreless for the first three innings and Shiner finally opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning.

They scored one run then followed that up with four more runs to hold a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth.

The Ladycats responded by scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game up at 5-5. Shiner came back in the seventh inning though and scored five runs and put the game out of reach of the Ladycats.

Taylor Smith was in the circle for the Ladycats, and she pitched all seven innings giving up 10 runs on 16 hits while striking out seven batters. Smith also hit a home run in the contest and so did her teammate, Sam Rangel.

Claire Pavlu and Ty’Rhianna Rhodes both hit doubles against Shiner and the team as a whole recorded five RBIs.

The lost stung because it is never fun losing especially to a district opponent, but the Ladycats had one more opportunity to get their district win.

@ Flatonia, W, 8-4

In their second game the Ladycats were the ones who opened the scoring with three runs scored in the top of the first inning. Flatonia responded with three runs of their own to tie the game at 3-3.

In the second the Ladycats outscored the Lady Dogs 2-1 and carried a 5-4 lead into the third inning. The Ladycats defense shut down the Lady Dogs for the rest of the game while their offense scored one run in each of the fourth, sixth and seventh inning for a final score of 8-4.

Smith was once again back in the circle for the Ladycats, and she pitched all seven innings giving up four runs on six hits while striking out 11 batters. Offensively the trio of Pavlu, Rangel and Rhodes all hit doubles and combined for four RBIs which is over half of the team total which six.

The Ladycats will wrap up their season next week and then shift their time, energy and effort to their playoff journey.
