Lady Cards win District Championship

The Columbus Lady Cards won back-to-back district games recently over Edna and Tidehaven to capture the District Championship.

The Lady Cards played both games on the road too but despite not being on their home field the Lady Cards handled their business.

@ Edna, W, 17-7

The Lady Cards first game was against Edna and this game started out scoreless for the first two and a half innings. Edna opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning where they scored two runs.

The Lady Cards responded quickly in the in the top of the fourth inning with two runs of their own to even up the score at 2-2. The Lady Cards then took the lead in the top of the fourth by scoring two more runs but Edna responded with five runs to leave the game with a 7-4 score going into the sixth inning.

In the sixth inning the Lady Cards offense unloaded on Edna to the tune of 13 runs which allowed the Lady Cards to retake the lead. With the score at 17-7 Edna had no response to the Lady Cards and the game was over.

Allie Cranek and Peyton Drozd shared the responsibility inside the circle and they combined to pitch all six innings and gave up seven runs on seven hits while striking out two batters.

On the offensive side, Mia Post hit two doubles and recorded four RBIs for the Lady Cards. Her teammates Aggie Rodriguez, Taylor Morrow, Drozd, Molly Garcia and Ella Berger all recorded doubles as well and combined for 11 RBIs.

Drozd also hit a triple along with teammate Kaylea Foster and Berger hit the only home run for the Lady Cards.

With one win under their belt the Lady Cards looked ahead to their game against Tidehaven.

@ Tidehaven, W, 10-3

This game the Lady Cards opened the scoring. They scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead. They scored once more in the fourth inning, then scored six runs in the sixth and then finally one more in the seventh.

The Lady Cards put Post in the circle, and she pitched all seven innings and gave up three runs on seven hits while striking out nine batters. Post also hit two more doubles in this game and recorded two RBIs.

Foster, Cranek, Garcia and Berger all hit doubles as well during the win and combined for four RBIs. Drozd hit the only triple in the entire game and recorded three RBIs as well.

The win awarded the Lady Cards the District Championship with a 12-2 district record, and with that comes a guaranteed playoff spot and they will be looking to make a deeper run than last season.
