The Weimar VFW Auxiliary Post 5875 met for its regular meeting last Tuesday, April 8 with 14 members present. The meeting was opened according to the Ritual by President Charlene Muras.
Candidate Kathy Beddingfield was accepted as a new member by acclamation in a voice vote and was initiated in a ceremony led by President Muras. An email was read from the VFW National Home outlining what they do, their annual report and listing their social media presence.
There are currently 13 annual members and 24 life members for a total of 37 members.
Jeanette Koenig reported that the school kid art contests entries were collected, judged and the winners were forwarded to the State for further competition. She also presented Weimar High School with a certificate of appreciation.
Muras noted there will be a Buddy Poppy drive on May 24 outside of MG and Kasper’s. Linda Wick reported that the Chaplain sent one card this month. There were nine veterans, eight residents, three Auxiliary volunteers and one guest at the Men’s Coffee at Parkview on March 21.
Members will be asked to sign up for the Buddy Poppy drive on May 24 at the meeting on May 13.
The following slate of officers were elected by acclamation: President- Charlene Muras; Sr. Vice-Dolores Lauck; Jr. Vice-Sara Bansal; Treasurer- Margie Janecka; Chaplain-Linda Wick; Guard-Marty Heinrich; Trustee #1-Pam Marshall; Trustee #2-Kathy Hudec; Trustee #3-Monica Stock; Conductor-Norma White; Delegates for District, Department and National- Charlene Muras, Dolores Lauck, Sara Bansal. Other appointed offices and program chairs were selected and approved by acclamation.
The Gedenke parade will take place on May 10 and the Auxiliary will have a float. Newly elected officers will be installed at the meeting on May 13. There will be a VFW BBQ chicken drive-thru on May 25 and members are asked to help.
Muras reported that at the District meeting on April 6, Roger Maupin was selected as teacher of the year and Madelyn Rerich placed 3rd at the State level VOD competition. The district will do Wreaths Across America again this year as their fund-raiser.
For the Good of the Order Jeanette Koenig listed the following patriotic days: May 1 Loyalty Day, May 8 VE Day, May 10 Military Spouses appreciation Day and May 11 Mother’s Day.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 13, at 6:00 p.m. at the Weimar VFW Hall kitchen.
