Columbus area students place in ROTM Art Contest

Congratulations to four local Columbus students who were recognized as winners in the Republic of Texas Museum (ROTM) Art Contest.

Earlier this year in January, over 100 Columbus students entered this contest, sponsored by the local chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT).

This chapter, Dilue Rose Harris, recognized local winners back in February, but all artwork was forwarded to the DRT’s ROTM in Austin for further evaluation. That committee judged entries from throughout the state and categorized winners by District and Grade Level. District VIII (made up of 16 chapters) winners at the Elementary Level are 1st - Layna Tello (Mr. Vickers, Columbus Elementary), 2nd – Bailyn Blount (Ms. Mraz, Columbus Elementary), and 3rd – Beau Neal (Ms. Hajovsky, St. Anthony’s Catholic School).

Additionally, Weston Dyer was awarded 1st place at the Junior High Level. His artwork was submitted through Live Oak Art Center After School Program taught by Ms. Hickman. Each winner received a monetary award and letter of recognition.

For more information about DRT or membership visit www. drtinfo.org or contact Marilyn Wade ([email protected]).
