Columbus Boy Scout Troop 312 celebrated their 80th anniversary this past March, celebrating their existence since they were first established in 1945.
Over the course of 80 years, the troop has produced 66 Eagle Scouts over the years, having been sponsored by the Columbus Lions Club for nearly 50 years.
The first Scout Troop in Columbus was created in 1918, with Troop 312 coming to life on March 1, 1945, after a commitment was made in December 1944 by the Columbus Lions Club to charter the troop.
The troops very first Scoutmaster, Fred Woodard, took the reins and worked with the Lions Club to hold their first meetings in the Lions Hall. Their meetings overtime transitioned to the Scout Hut in Columbus.
Another troop was prevalent at the time, Troop 120, until they failed to recharter and the boys transferred to troop 312.
