March 21 marked the 50th anniversary of National Ag Day, which is celebrated in classrooms and communities across the country.
To celebrate, Navidad Valley CattleWomen donated 280 pounds of ground beef to area high schools that have Food and Consumer Science or Culinary programs. Rice Consolidated High School and Columbus High School were among the schools that received donations. The organization said they also distributed recipes and information on the importance of quality protein being incorporated into one’s daily diet. The students will be utilizing the donated meat in future class assignments as guided by their teachers.
National Ag Day is organized by the Agriculture Council of America. The ACA is a nonprofit organization composed of leaders in the agricultural, food and fiber community, dedicating its efforts to increasing the public’s awareness of agriculture’s role in modern society, according to a release.
The Navidad Valley CattleWomen, a local chapter of the Texas Cattlewomen, is a non-profit organization that supports and promotes the beef industry. The next CattleWomen business meeting will be April 26 to celebrate the 2023 scholarship recipients.
