$15M grant approved for wastewater system

COLUMBUS CITY COUNCIL

A resolution was passed by Columbus city council members at their recent meeting Monday evening, April 14, approving the Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC) agreement, allowing a more than $15 million dollar grant to be used by Columbus to finance a wastewater system project.

The agreement authorized Columbus Mayor Lori An Gobert, the designated representative of the city, to execute an agreement with the HGAC in relation to the General Land Office (GLO) Community Development Block Grant.

GLO has approved funding to “provide financial assistance through a grant to HGAC,” approximately $15,811,189.50.

Additionally, three bids for three different projects within the city were awarded by city councilmembers, for the 2025 Industrial Park Elevated Water Storage Tank Rehabilitation project, the Little League Field Electric Panel Improvements project and the Golf Course Irrigation Well project.

Eight bids were submitted for the Water Storage Tank Rehabilitation project, with the lowest bid submitted by AMR Industrial Coatings at $305,000 and the highest bid submitted by NG Painting LP at $540,000. City Manager Donald Warschak recommended that the project be awarded to AMR Industrial Coatings for the price of $305,000.

The Little League Field Improvements project saw just a singular bid received from Rosenbaum Electric at $40,990.16, while the Golf Course Irrigation Well project saw two bids come in at $40,705 from Busselman Water Wells and $41,113.78 from Neuendorff’s Water Well Service respectively.

Warschak recommended that the city move forward with the singular bid for the Little League Field Improvements project from Rosenbaum for $40,990.16 for the and the lowest bid for the Golf Course Irrigation Well project from Busselman Water Well for $40,705.

A resolution was additionally passed by council members approving the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) Community Development Partnership Program (CDPP) Agreement.

Warschak has been appointed as the designated representative of the city to execute the agreement with LCRA, who approved funding to provide “financial assistance through a grant to the city in the amount of 18,758” to be used by the city to work on refurbishing the basketball court, adding a pickleball court, lighting and fencing at the Columbus Community Park.

The next Columbus city council meeting will take place on Monday, April 28 at 5:30 p.m.
