The Columbus Cardinals most recent three-game stretch has left them with a 2-1 record over those three games.
The Cards defeated the Edna Cowboys twice before losing to their district rival Hallettsville in a close game.
Vs. Edna, W, 15-5
The Cards started their first of three games with the combination of Brody Tribe and Cade Neumann on the bump. Tribe was awarded the win because he pitched five innings for the Cards.
He gave up five runs on seven hits while walking three batters and striking out seven of them. Neumann came in relief and pitched one inning and gave up zero runs on zero hits while striking out two batters.
Offensively the Cards ran the bases very well and took advantage of the errors made by the Cowboys. Lan Kulhanek was the only player in the entire game to hit a double and it was the only multiple base hits in the contest.
The Cards also recorded 11 RBIs during the win and Weston Krpec had the most with three.
The Cards were only in game one of three and wanted to carry their good play over into their next game against the Cowboys which was played in Edna.
@ Edna, W, 11-6
In their second game the Cards found themselves tied with the Cowboys 2-2 going into the fourth inning. The Cards scored two more runs in the fourth inning to go up 4-2 before scoring seven runs in the sixth and gave up four in the seventh to win the game 11-6.
Like the first game the Cards used a combination of pitchers to get the job done. Wyatt Tipton got the start, and he pitched six innings and gave up two runs on four hits while striking out six batters.
Tipton was joined by Kannon Rooks and Neumann. Rooks secured the first two outs of the inning before Neumann came in to secure the final out. They combined to pitch one inning and gave up four runs on two hits.
Offensively Tribe hit two doubles and again these were the only multiple base hits in the game.
With two wins under their belt the Cards went back on the road to take on their district rival Hallettsville.
@ Hallettsville, L, 5-2
In their third game the Cardinals opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, to carry a 1-0 lead into the second inning. Hallettsville responded right back with a score of their own to tie the game at one run each.
The Cards came right back in the third to recapture the lead which now was up to 2-1. Unfortunately, this was all of the offense the Cards received in this game.
Hallettsville’s offense stayed hit though and scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth inning to take the lead of 5-2. The Cards were unable to battle back in this one, but they will have their shot at redemption soon enough.
Tipton and Neumann were back on the mound for the Cards, but Tipton played up until the last out of the game before Neumann came in. Tipton gave up five runs on seven hits while striking out six batters.
The Cardinals will be back in action next week when they travel to take on the Rice Raiders on Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m.
