The Rice Consolidated High School track team hosted the Area Meet on Thursday, April 10, to see which runners are advancing to the Regional Meet.
On their home field both the Rice Raiders and Rice Lady Raiders were in action and several Raiders, and one Lady Raider are heading to the Regional Meet.
The lone Lady Raider to punch her ticket to the Regional Meet was Fallan Wied who ran in the 300m hurdles. She came in 4th place to earn herself a spot in the Regional Meet because only the top four runners advanced, she had a recorded time of 47.78 seconds.
As for the boys, Jon Woods got things started in the 400m race where he came in 2nd place. Woods finished with a time of 51.58 seconds and was only a second behind claiming gold.
In the 400m race Jael Valles-Serrano finished with a time of two minutes flat to come in 1st place. In the 1660m race Valles-Serrano returned to the track and once again took home gold with a time of four minutes and 43 seconds.
Joining Valles-Serrano in the 1600m race was his teammate Payton Englebrecht who came in 4th place to earn a spot in the Regional Meet. Englebrecht finished with a recorded time of four minutes and 56 seconds.
In the 3200m Englebrecht was back on the track and this time he earned himself a gold medal, he came in 1st place with a time of 10 minutes and 19 seconds. Lance Dingler was also a part of the 3200m race, and he came in 4th place with a time of 11 minutes and 12 seconds.
The 300m hurdles for the boys also saw one runner earn a spot in the Regional Meet and that was Tamarion Turner. Turner came in 4th place with a time of 42.03 seconds.
In the relay races the Raiders had both their 4x200m and their 4x400m relay teams qualify for the Regional Meet as both teams finished in 3rd place in their respective races.
In the 4x200m the team of Braden James, Jace Upson, Ke’undric Pratt and Isaiah Castillo finished with a time of one minute and 30 seconds. The 4x400m relay team of Jon Woods, Jace Upson, AJ Jenkins and Isaiah Castillo finished with a time of three minutes and 25 seconds.
In the field events Gabe Barrios came in 4th during the pole vault event after he jumped a height of 12’6’. In the shot put and discus events RJ Myers came in 2nd and 4th place with throws of 56’2’ and 144’4’ respectively.
The Lady Raider and Raiders now look ahead to the Regional Meet which is set to be held in Seguin.
