A new attitude

VIEWPOINT OF A TEXAS CHALLENGE ACADEMY CADET

Fear. Anger. Disappointment. Stress. These are some of the feelings many cadets, including me, face upon arriving at Texas ChalleNGe Academy. And believe me, these feelings were expressed and still are, even into week twelve. Sometimes I questioned what I could even find here at TCA that would help me in my future. But now what I have learned is that it helped me find a new me.

Upon my arrival here, I was hopeless. Being in and out of boarding schools basically all of my life taught me the wrong way of thinking and acting. Eventually, it made my days just go by with no real purpose. I felt that I was never noticed.

Eventually my parents turned their attention away from me and onto more important things. And so, I came here. When I came to TCA, there was so much tension, and cadets didn’t talk to one another without arguing. Now at week 12, things have changed for us, and I see a new way.

TCA has changed my way of thinking, and I have been transformed. I have made friends here, such as Giron from Charlie Platoon, who have helped me stay strong. Team leaders and teachers have helped me and showed me that I am noticed. It has transformed me into a better version of myself, and I know that when I leave, I will carry that new attitude with me.
