Eagle Lake Noon Lions hosts World War II book author

During last Thursday’s meeting of the Eagle Lake Noon Lions Club, the special speaker was attorney Joe C. Fling.

Mr. Fling and co-author, Sandra C. Thomas, wrote the book, “Seventy Years a Victory: 19452015,” about World War II.

He highlighted a Colorado County citizen,1st Lieutenant Charles P. Boggess who joined the Army in 1942 at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. Charles was assigned to C Company, 37th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division.

During the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, he commanded C Company. His tank was the first that broke through German lines and entered Bastogne to relieve the 101st Airborne Division and to end the Nazi siege of the city. Boggess received three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star during his service in the Army.
