Lady Cards win back-to-back district games

The Columbus Lady Cardinals picked up two huge district wins this past week over Palacios and Hallettsville.

In the first game against Palacios the Lady Cards cruised to a 10-0 win and then had a bit of a close game with Hallettsville but still came away with a 3-1 victory.

Vs. Palacios, W, 10-0 The Lady Cards were on home field for their first game this week on Tuesday night against Palacios and they made the most of their home field advantage. They took the game right to Palacios from the opening pitch both offensively and defensively.

Peyton Drozd was in the circle for the Lady Cards, and she did an excellent job of keeping runners off the bases. She pitched five innings and gave up zero runs on two hits while striking out four batters.

Offensively, the Lady Cards opened the scoring in the second inning where they scored one run. In the third inning the Lady Cards again scored one run then added two more in the fourth inning before they scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth.

They were Led by Emma Beauchamp and Allie Cranek who both hit doubles during the victory.

@ Hallettsville, W, 3-1 The second game of the week for the Lady Cards on Friday night was a much closer game but that is expected against a district rival.

The Lady Cards opened the scoring in the top of the first inning by scoring two runs. Hallettsville quickly responded with one run of their own to cut the Lady Cards lead in half, then the defense decided to take the spotlight for themselves.

Mia Post pitched all seven innings for the Lady Cards, and she gave up one run on three hits while walking two batters and striking out nine of them.

No runs were scored in the game from the second inning until the fifth inning with both Columbus’ and Hallettsville’s defenses locking down the field. In the sixth inning the Lady Cards extended their lead by one and then their defense closed out the game.

Picking up a district win is always a good feeling but being able to beat a district rival in the process makes the win even sweeter.

The Lady Cards will have played on Tuesday, April 8, where they welcomed the Rice Lady Raiders to their home field for their latest district game.
