Weimar police chief resigns after 18 months

City now looking for new chief, city manager

The city of Weimar is now looking for a new police chief in addition to a new city manager, following the resignation request put in by former Weimar Police Department Chief Mark Jameson on Thursday, March 27.

After an 18-month stint as Chief of Police for the Weimar P.D., Jameson decided to step down and away from the position, citing “recent changes: to both his private and professional life.

In a farewell post to the “citizens of Weimar and faithful Facebook followers,” Jameson stated the decision came after much reflection and consideration and was by no means an easy choice, but nonetheless the right one.

“Eighteen months ago, I had the privilege of stepping into the role of Chief of Police for the Weimar Police Department,” said Jameson. “It has been an honor to serve this incredible community alongside a dedicated team of law enforcement professionals. Together, we have worked to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents, build stronger relationships with the community, and uphold the values of integrity, honor, and pride in service. While this was not an easy choice, I know in my heart that it is the right one at this time.”

Jameson thanked his fellow officers and staff members at the Weimar P.D. in his farewell post and reflected on his time over the course of the last year and a half serving as the police chief.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the officers and staff of the Weimar Pol ice Department,” said Jameson. “Your commitment, courage, and professionalism have been nothing short of inspiring. It has been an honor to lead and serve alongside you. Though I am stepping away from this role, I will always carry with me the memories, lessons, and friendships formed during my time here. I have no doubt that the WPD will continue to thrive and serve with excellence.”

At this time, no interim police chief has been named. The city continues to search for candidates to fill the role.
