The Rice Lady Raiders competed in the District Meet last Wednesday and Thursday on their home field at Rice Consolidated High School.
The Lady Raiders did not get the end result they wanted but still had a couple of runners qualify for the Area Meet.
In the 800m Taylor Eichelberger got things started for the Lady Raiders as she was the only Lady Raider to run in the final. She came in 12th place with a time of two minutes and 44 seconds.
In the 1600m Lexia Rangel was inaction and she came in 4th place to qualify for the Area Meet. Like Eichelberger she was the only Lady Raider in the race, she finished the race in six minutes and seven seconds, but she was not done there.
Rangel also competed in the 3200m race where she came in 7th place with a time of 14 minutes and 21 seconds.
Like her two teammates before Fallan Wied was by herself as the only Lady Raider in the 110m and 300m hurdles. In the 110m hurdles she qualified for the Area Meet by coming in 2nd place with a time of 16.80 seconds.
In the 300m hurdles she took home 1st place with a time of 49.34 seconds. After winning Wied was emotional as tears ran down her face. It’s not uncommon to see these runners sacrifice a lot just to win a race so when they achieve that goal it’s not too out of the ordinary to see the emotion pour out of them after a race.
In the 4x100m relay the Lady Raiders came in 6th place with a time of 52.48 seconds, the 4x200m they came in 7th place with a time of one minute and 58 seconds then finished off with the 4x400m relay in 7th place with a time of four minutes and 44 seconds.
In the field events Diamond Fuller and Blessin Adams-Hamilton competed in the Long Jump event and came in 13th and 16th place respectively. Fuller had a jump of 13 feet “6.5” and Adams- Hamilton had a jump of 12 feet “3.5”.
In the discus event Julia Tovar threw for the Lady Raiders and came in 8th place with a throw of 80’8. In the shot-put Gourni Flowers-Powell and Alejandra Valles-Serrano came in 6th and 17th place respectively.
Flowers-Powell recorded a throw of 31 feet “10.75” and Valles-Serrano recorded a throw of 26 feet “3”.
The Lady Raiders will have some participation at the Area Meet where they will be looking to keep their season alive and make it to the Regional Meet.
