The Columbus Cardinals traveled to Rice Consolidated High School to compete in the District Meet.
The Cards did not win the District Meet but still had some runners qualify for the Area Meet so let’s take a look at the results from the District Meet.
Starting int he 100m dash, Braylon Fisher came in 4th place with a time of 11.07 seconds. In the 200m Giovanni Martinez came in 6th place with a time of 23 seconds flat.
The 400m saw two Cards finish in 3rd and 4th place respectively and those runners were Rylan Carruthers and Xavier Woods. Carruthers finished with a time of 52.55 seconds and Woods clocked in with a time of 52.94 seconds In the 800m race Elijah Owen was the first Cardinal to cross the finish line, he finished with a time of two minutes and six seconds to come in second place. Not too far behind him was Keegan Escamilla in 8th place with a time of two minutes and 24 seconds.
In the 1600m Owen and Escamilla were back in action and they came in 7th and 8th place. Owen posted a time of five minutes and eight seconds while Escamilla posted a time of five minutes and 10 seconds.
The duo returned to the track for the 3200m race and Owen came in 9th place with a time of 11 minutes and 58 seconds. Escamilla came in 11th place with a time of 12 minutes and 22 seconds.
In the 4x100m relay the team of Xavier Woods, Elijah Usher, Brennan Hicks and Braylon Fisher came in 4th place with a time of 44.29 seconds. In the 4x200m the team of Bryan Salazar, Jack Schobel, Brennan Hicks and Braylon Fisher came in 4th place with a time of one minute and 33 seconds, and finally in the 4x400m the team of Hicks, Woods, Salazar and Rylan Carruthers came in 4th place with a time of three minutes and 32 seconds.
In the field events Brennan Hicks came in 9th place with a jump of 19’1. Then Hicks participated in the triple jump where he came in 5th place with a jump of 42 feet “8.25”.
The Discus event saw a duo of Cards, Keyon Hemphill and Christopher Quinn, come in 12th and 13th place respectively. Hemphill recorded a throw of 96’9 while Quinn recorded a throw of 93’11.
The duo returned to the field for the shot-put event, Hemphill came in 9th place with a throw of 39 feet “2.5”. Quinn recorded a throw of 30 feet “2.25” to come in 11th place.
The top four from each event automatically qualify for the Area Meet so rest assured Cardinal fans, track season is still alive, and the Cards will be back in action next week at the Area Meet.

Braylon Fisher qualified for the Area Meet for the 100m dash because he came in 4th place. Citizen | Evan Hale
