The Rice Raiders currently have a record of 9-9 which does not seem bad, but they are on a five-game losing streak.
Before the losing streak the Raiders were 9-4 and playing really good baseball.
In their first five games the Raiders scored a total of 41 runs and went 4-1 over that stretch. In this recent five game losing streak the Raiders have only scored eight runs.
The offense is struggling but what exactly is wrong is really anyone’s guess, but to go from one five game stretch where you score 41 runs to another five-game stretch and only scoring eight can be concerning for fans.
One factor could be the drastic changes in weather affecting the moods of the players. To go from freezing cold rain to blistering heat in a matter of minutes is enough to get someone feeling a little unlike themselves because of how much the sun can affect the human brain. But that’s a bit of a stretch.
Another reason, and possibly the most likely, is that they are just in a bit of a slump. It happens to every single team that has ever existed. Which in simpler terms the answers to the problems they are having right now on this losing streak are all in the dugout.
These guys know each other, they trust each other, and they know how to push each other. They will find a way out of this little rut they found themselves in and get back on track in the coming weeks.
For fans of the Raiders baseball team, take a deep breath, it’s not quite time to hit the panic button, there’s still a lot of baseball left to be played. March is a weird time for everyone, and it is no different for athletes.
The Raiders will be back in action on Tuesday, April 1, when they travel to Industrial to take on the Cobras.
