Every week there is a story about how the Lady Raiders are improving but somehow still not winning games and that may be confusing.

Maybe not confusing but it can be a bit of a headscratcher to say the least.

This time though there are numbers that support this claim that the Lady Raiders are in fact improving from last season. For starters they have one win, does not seem like a lot at first glance but considering they won 0 games last season, chalk it up as a win.

Pitching wise the Lady Raiders had a total of 43 strikeouts for the season and already this season they are up to 48 strikeouts. They are still working on their fielding; it’s definitely a work in progress but they also have taken a big step since last year and are much more confident out in the field.

Switching over to hitting, there are six players that played on last year’s team that have made major improvements with their hitting. Last season the lowest batting average on the Lady Raiders was a .074, the highest was .222.

Not great numbers but this season the highest batting average belongs to Kimberly Aquino. Aquino fell roughly in the middle of those two averages last season with a .162, this season, she is leading the team with a .590.

Right behind her is Paige Eggemeyer with a .429 batting average this season which is second on the team. Eggemeyer had a .189 batting average last season, and there are still four more players that made major improvements inside the batter’s box.

The biggest improvement though belongs to Valerie Lugo. Lugo was the Lady Raider that had a .074 batting average last season and this season she is up to a .278 and she is only going to get better.

The Lady Raiders are hitting the ball better and running the bases better, case and point last season they had a total of four doubles and this season they have 22. They have two triples this season which matches last season’s totals, and they hit two home runs last season and have not hit one this season, yet.

So, there it is: numerical proof that the Lady Raiders are improving; we just need to be patient with them.

The Lady Raiders will be back in action on Tuesday, April 1, when they take on Yoakum in a district game.
