Tate Griffin hit the only triple in the 16-1 victory over Lousie.

The Weimar Ladycats defeated the Louise Lady Hornets by a score of 16-1 Friday night in Weimar.

It was also Big sis/ Little sis night out in Weimar and the team celebrated their victory by putting on a little dance routine for the fans in attendance with both the Big and Little sisters.

“We’re just trying to get the little ones excited about what we are doing, and we try to find ways to make it fun because if it’s not fun, why would you do it?” Ladycats head coach Roger Maupin said. “We try to make it fun for the Big sis’s and the Little sis’s, get a little more participation, it is a game but, in the end, it is just about having fun.”

As for the game itself, the Ladycats gave up the first run of the game after a couple errors allowed Louise to get back to home plate.

“You have the one boo boo at first base, but that happens, it’s all about how we react and that was the key,” Maupin said.

In the bottom of the first though the Ladycats unloaded on Louise and scored 12 runs in response.

Taylor Smith helped open the scoring for the Ladycats after she hit a double that drove home two runners. Shortly after, the Ladycats loaded up the bases and Olivia Noska was able to score because of passed ball and the momentum only grew from there.

The Ladycats batted through their entire lineup before Louise secured the first out of the inning. They looked very comfortable in the batter’s box and continued to put pressure on Louise’s defense.

Tate Griffin hit the lone triple in the game while Taylor Smith and Sam Rangel each hit two doubles and Ty’Rianna Rhodes hit one. Smith also led the game with three RBIs.

The Ladycats offense was on fire Friday night and their bats were even hotter, and Maupin said they simply did not chase pitches.

“We did not chase the bad pitches, we do primary, secondary, two strike hitting and trying to focus on making them throw strikes to us,” Maupin said.

Defensively Smith was in the circle for the Ladycats, and she gave up one run on zero hits in three innings played while striking out eight batters in the process. Smith threw 44 total pitches and 33 were called strikes which is a 75% strike rate.

The Ladycats are scheduled to face their District rival Schulenburg on Tuesday, April 1, on their home field in Weimar at 6 p.m.
