A Costco truck driver suffered a seizure on the road that ultimately led to a car accident last Tuesday night, March 25, after losing control of his truck.
Around 6:45 p.m. Columbus Volunteer Fire Department responded to an accident at the I-10 W 698 entrance ramp involving a pickup truck and an 18-wheeler.
The pickup truck driver reportedly suffered a medical emergency (seizure), and the passenger attempted to regain control, swerved to avoid rear-ending the 18-wheeler. Unfortunately, the 18-wheeler was turning into the entrance ramp at the same time, leading to a collision that ruptured the saddle tank, causing a fuel spill.
The drivers of both vehicles and all passengers were able to get out of the trucks without any injuries.
CVFD firefighters applied MicroBlaze to mitigate the spill and assisted with traffic control to keep everyone safe.
Colorado County EMS, Colorado County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety and Delgado’s Wrecker Service all assisted the CVFD on scene.

The accident caused a fuel spill after the saddle tank of the 18-wheeler was ruptured.
