VIEWPOINT OF A TEXAS CHALLENGE ACADEMY CADET
Over the past two months, we have had a lot of obstacles; none of which have been easy. Let’s just say that Texas ChalleNGe Academy really lives up to its name.
The reason I came to TCA was that I needed a challenge. I’ve been very lucky to have two loving parents who take great care of me and my siblings (shoutout to Mom and Dad). My parents have worked very hard for the life they have given me. I have had so many opportunities to get my life right, but I just didn’t take advantage of it. I knew my parents would always take care of me, so I just carried on, business as usual.
I never really felt the need to work hard despite the fact that my parents had taught me my whole life to be a hard worker. I finally realized that I needed a change so that I could become someone worth being proud of. Upon coming to TCA, I just wanted my high school diploma and GED, but I have quickly come to realize that TCA is helping me accomplish so much more than that. I am growing my self-confidence, which used to be at an all-time low.
My team leaders, teachers, and peers have helped me so much in being more confident in who I am. I am also being taught to lead, something my dad has always preached. I am learning to lead by example and lead with love. As a Christian, TCA is also providing me with time to grow my faith.
I have time every night to spend in my Bible and get closer to Christ. One verse I read while being here that has really helped me is Joshua 1:9, which says “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid and do not panic, for I, the Lord your God, am with you.”
With this new environment, I have really had to put my faith to the test. This program demands so much of anyone who attends so I have really had to be strong. Any time I feel afraid, I look back to Joshua 1:9 and remember that I have Christ by my side, no matter the challenge.
Texas ChalleNGe Academy has also helped me to focus on myself and my goals for a future. With almost no distractions, it is much simpler to complete schoolwork and any tasks given to me. I feel more locked in than ever. I want a great future for myself, and I know that I must work for it. TCA is helping to set me up for success.
It’s not an easy program, but it has helped me grow astronomically as a person. I feel more confident, focused, loving, and most importantly, I can love myself. Texas ChalleNGe Academy has helped me in ways I never imagined, and I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to attend this program and am so excited to see where it takes me.
