The Columbus Cardinals baseball team has started their season by splitting their first 12 games with six wins and six losses.
They were starting to build a little bit of momentum after they started the season hot out of the gate but hit a three-game skid that they had to battle out of.
To start the season, the Cardinals traveled to Boling and then came back home to take on Bellville. The Cards defeated Boling 6-3 and Bellville 1-0 to open up the year with back-to-back wins over quality opponents.
Cade Neumann and Kannon Rooks were on the bump for the Cards in the first game against Boling and they combined for seven strikeouts in seven innings pitched. In the game against Bellville again went with Neumann and Rooks but also threw Lane Kulhanek in the rotation and they combined for eight strikeouts in seven innings seven of which came from Kulhanek.
Game three was not as fortunate for the Cards as they were handed their first loss and shutout for the first time this season. Calhoun defeated the Cards 12-0, and the offensive struggles carried over into their game against El Campo.
The 7-1 loss to El Campo was a gut punch to the Cards offense because they knew they were better than scoring one run over two games and against Port Aransas they proved exactly that.
The Cards offense exploded back onto the stage and scored 11 runs on their way to an 11-2 victory. Weston Krpec, Ryan Carter and Cole Tribe led the way offensively for the Cards as all three of them hit doubles and Tribe added a triple to his stat line on their way to victory.
The Cards went on to split their next two games after they defeated Port Aransas leading them to their games against Sealy. The history between these two teams is well known so bragging rights are always on the table when they match up.
The Cards were shutout by Sealy 4-0 and this loss started a three-game skid for the Cards. The Cards dropped back-to-back games to Madisonville 11-3 and Tidehaven 5-0 after the loss to Sealy and left the Cards with a 4-6 record.
The Cards found themselves matched up with Tidehaven only a few days after being shut out the Cards returned the favor. The Cards defeated Tidehaven 1-0 thanks to a double from Carter that got him on base then Brody Tribe got the lone RBI of the game to bring Carter home.
The Cards followed that performance with a 14-9 win over Palacios that included an offensive surge in the seventh inning where the Cards scored six runs. Carter along with Wyatt Tipton both hit triples in this game while Cole Tribe and Ayden Carter both hit doubles to contribute to a winning effort.
The Cards are currently in their district schedule and will look to stack some more wins and try to earn a playoff spot.

Ryan Carter hit a double and a triple in the Cardinals recent stretch of games.
