The Rice Raiders baseball team has played 16 games so far this season and have posted a 9-7 record.
The Raiders came out the gate hot winning four of their first five games to start the season on a great note.
During that time, they outscored opponents 4624 with their lone loss come from an 8-5 final in favor of Cesar E. Chaves varsity Lobos. After this they went on a three-game losing streak.
They lost three games in a row to Nimitz, the Lobos again and then the Houston Math Science and Tech varsity Tigers. They then followed that up with a four-game winning streak where they defeated Royal 19-11, Louise 4-3, Wharton 11-1 and Victoria 4-2.
While the Raiders were riding high another threegame losing streak was on the horizon. They lost to Palacios in back-to-back games and then to Tidehaven to leave them with their current record of 9-7.
Offensively the Raiders have been great with Keenan Hailey Leading the charge with a .522 average. Behind him is Adolfo Martinez with a .512 average and then Glenn Mills and Jaren Brown with .489 and .429 batting averages respectively.
Martinez is tied for the team lead in doubles hit this season with six, he shares the top spot with Mills. Brown is second on the team with four doubles and then Hailey is in fourth with three doubles.
On the mound Hailey leads the team in strikeouts with 36 and mills is second on that list with 25 strikeouts. Hailey also leads the team in innings pitched pitching 27.2 innings so far this season for the Raiders.
The Raiders now set their sights on their rematch with Palacios and their next home game against Hallettsville.
