The Frelsburg VFD were busy all week fighting two seperate brush fires with one on Tuesday, March 11 and the other, a larger brush fire, on Saturday, March 15.

At 5:45 p.m. Tuesday evening, the Frelsburg VFD were dispatched to the brush fire and found multiple large piles of logs on fire after arriving on scene. The fire spread quickly into heavy cedar and pine trees and had thick pine needles on the ground.

The fire was eventually contained, with several large trees and hot spots on the perimeter were still active. The Columbus Volunteer Fire Department and New Ulm Volunteer Fire Department were assisted the Frelsburg VFD to contain the fire.

Also called to the scene were the Colorado County Texas Office of Emergency Management for support to use drones to look for hot spots from above, the Colorado County EMS on standby, bringing “much needed drinking water.”

The landowners’ employees assisted in using a dozer to push the piles together to help keep all of the burning logs together to let them burn out.

On Saturday afternoon, March 15, the Frelsburg VFD fought another brush fire, a larger blaze, off Weishuhn Road near Zimmerscheidt Rd. Multiple departments assisted the Frelsburg VFD, including the Columbus VFD, New Ulm VFD, Bernardo Volunteer Fire Department, Oakridge Volunteer Fire Department, Cat Spring Volunteer Fire Department, Bleiberville Volunteer Fire Department and the Colorado County Texas Office of Emergency Management.

The scene was eventually cleared with no injuries noted and additional support by the Texas A&M forest service, who were also contacted for additional resources.
