First United Methodist Church of Eagle Lake hosts Lenten Luncheon

The Community of Eagle Lake celebrates the season of Lent every year by coming together in the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall for: “Lenten Luncheons” on the Mondays of Lent, 11:30 a.m. 1:00 a.m. Many Eagle Lake churches participate in this joyful ecumenical gathering. All are welcome.

On Monday, March 17, the guest speaker was Rev. Cathy McCorkle, pastor of the First United Methodist Church. After everyone enjoyed home-made soup and cookies, Rev. Cathy brought a St. Patrick’s Day message from Luke 10: 1-12 about an abundant harvest being brought in by a few workers.

Jesus told the 72 folks to go and to do, and to not let “stuff” get in their way of telling the Good News to their community. St. Patrick took that message to heart. Patrick was born in Britian of a Roman family. When he was 16 years old, Irish raiders came and tore him from his family to be a slave to the Irish.

He suffered greatly as a slave but became a shepherd. He lived among the Celtic tribes, and was in constant danger, but continued to minister to the people, bringing them the liberating story of the gospel.

Through many difficulties, with love and peace, he followed his faith and went out and became the ‘hands and feet of God’. We are called to do the same.
