Lady Raiders getting better after each game

The Rice Lady Raiders losing streak grows to five games after losing three games in a row in their recent stretch of games.

The Lady Raiders took on the likes of Yoakum, Tidehaven and Columbus and despite what was shown on the scoreboard the Lady Raiders continue to take positive steps in their development.

@ Yoakum, L, 14-1

The first game in this three-game stretch started off rough, the Lady Raiders gave up seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. They put themselves in a deep hole in the beginning of the game but found a way to respond in the second inning.

The Lady Raiders hit back-to-back singles from Rylie Schmidt and Valerie Lugo to put two runners on base. Lexia Rangel stepped up to the plate after that and hit a ground ball to the Yoakum shortstop who fumbled the ball a bit for an error.

The error allowed Rangel to advance all the way to second base which brought home Schmidt for the Lady Raiders first run of the game. The final score ended up being the final score but the fact that the Lady Raiders stayed in the game and found a way to get themselves on the board and string some hits together.

The Lady Raiders last year would have given up after given up seven runs to start the game, but these girls are determined to turn things around this year. They might have lost a lot of games, but they are getting better and it’s becoming more and more noticeable.

Vs. Tidehaven, L, 24-7 Much like their game against Yoakum the Lady Raiders gave up a large amount of runs early in the game. By the middle of the 3rd inning Tidehaven had a 19-0 lead over the Lady Raiders.

As mentioned in the bit about their game against Yoakum, last year’s team would have folded the tents and called it a day. This year though they came back in the bottom of the 3rd and responded with seven runs of their own.

The highlight of the inning was a double that came Paige Eggemeyer. This came after her teammates were able to string together a couple of hits and keep runners moving while on base.

While the Lady Raiders ended up losing the game, but the offensive surge was the confidence boost this team needed.

The Lady Raiders continue to prep for their tough schedule ahead of them as they will continue to develop and hone their skills.
