COLUMBUS — On March 9, Ms. Mary Tromblee’s class at St. Anthony Catholic School welcomed members of the Dilue Rose Harris chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

Kathleen Townzen, chapter president, reprised her role as Dilue Rose Harris (from the Live Oaks, Dead Folks tour) for the fourth graders and gave interesting information about her life during the Runaway Scrape and early days of the Texas Republic.

Afterward, Donna Pustejovsky, presented items from the chapter’s Pioneer Life Trunk, a vintage trunk filled with artifacts and replicas that would have been used in the mid-1800s. These articles included toys, tools, and everyday use items. The students compared their current experience to those of pioneer children while demonstrating, handling, and playing with the contents. The students enjoyed treats and drinks at the conclusion of the presentation.

The DRT is the oldest women’s patriotic organization in Texas, and is dedicated to the preservation and education of Texas history.

For more information on the DRT, visit drtinfo. org or the Dilue Rose Harris Chapter Facebook page. Women interested in becoming a full or associate member of the Dilue Rose Harris Chapter in Columbus can contact Marilyn Wade at MBWade. [email protected].

Full members can prove lineal descent from a Republic of Texas patriot or citizen. Associate membership is offered to women who would not otherwise be eligible for full membership, but have a deep interest in the history of Texas and the objectives of DRT.
