
Ruby Alamilla (right) received individual honors at the 2025 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for placing 8th out of 314 contestants in the senior division of the dairy judging contest. Alamilla was also one of just four contestants selected to receive a Calf Scramble certificate based on her contest scores. Alamilla’s Calf Scramble Certificate donors are Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Keng, and their daughter, Megan, of Houston. The Keng Family generously donated $2,000 for Alamilla to purchase a market steer or registered beef heifer to bring back to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 2026.

On Tuesday, March 4, Colorado County 4-H members brought home 4th Place Junior team honors with Emily Wied being 6th high point individual in the Junior division. Junior Team members are Jacob Koy, Carlee Seifert, Khloe Woolard, Emily Wied, Henry Jones, Caden Koy, and Daxton Moffett. Senior Team members are Colten Koy, Jase Rau, Lana Potter, Bralen Heger, Mylee Moffett, and Jack Dudensing.

Weimar FFA members Logan Kainer and Kaden Zinnante participated in the 2025 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Junior Commercial Steer Feeding and Management Contest held at NRG Arena March 9 through March 11. The contest included raising three commercial steers which are graded based on USDA quality and yield grade standards. In addition, participants must complete a record book, take a written exam, identify meat cuts, complete financial calculations, and interview with a committee of judges. On Saturday, March 15, Mylee Moffett competed in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Youth Public Speaking Contest, the largest youth public speaking contest in the nation.

On Tuesday, March 11 at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Colorado County 4-H member Lana Potter showed her Beefmaster Heifer, CPR Showboat in the Calf Scramble Show and Breeding Beef Heifer Show. Potter won a calf scramble heifer in Houston last year and was awarded $2,250 to purchase a calf and bring it back to show this year. Potter and ShowBoat were 6th place in the American Division of the Scramble Show, and 12th place in a large class of Beefmasters in the junior heifer show.
