Raiders struggle in big back-to-back losses

The Rice varsity baseball team still has plenty of room to grow in regards to both their offensive and defensive production. Their struggles in both phases of the game have made it difficult for the Raiders to keep games close as they have suffered several double-digit defeats. This trend continued for Rice last week as they faced two tough opponents over spring break.

The Raiders started with a 13-1 defeat to the Edna Cowboys as Rice struggled to get their offense going. The Cowboys scored at least one run in every inning as they peppered the Raider fielders with base hits. Rice prevented a shutout with their lone run in the second inning to cut the Edna lead to 3-1 entering the third inning. However, the Cowboys responded with a 5-run third inning to push the game out of reach for the Raiders.

Things did not get much better for the Raiders in the second game of the week against Tidehaven, another district opponent. The Tigers gave Rice all they could handle along with a 15-5 defeat and another mercy rule ending. The Raiders found much better offensive production compared to their performance earlier in the week. However, they once again struggled on the defensive end as they could not support their improved outing offensively.
