Cards golf steals show

The Columbus Golf team traveled to Cuero to participate in the Cuero Tournament and the Lady Cards stole the show.

They shot a 422 as a team to take home a gold medal and a first-place trophy to add to the ever- growing trophy case at Columbus High School.

“They were very excited when the results were posted,” Columbus golf coach Andy Jacobs said. “They understood what they had accomplished under those conditions.”

The conditions were intense out in Cuero as the wind gust caused a ton of adversity for the Lady Cards but they never batted an eye.

“I was very proud of the girls,” Jacobs said. “The wind was a constant 30-plus MPH and gusts of over 50. They never complained. They just went about their business as well as they could.”

Leading the way for the Lady Cards was Katharine Burnett who shot a 97 which was second among individual scores. Next was Mady Garcia who shot a 105, then Layla Schindler who shot a 108.

Then Sydnie Shepard and Thea Schobel rounded out the group shooting a 112 and a 121 respectively.

The Lady Cards will look to build on this performance as they prepare for their round on Monday, March 10, in Victoria.
