The Cards claimed their spot after some impressive outings by their point-scoring performers. They got their top single-event performance from Xavier Woods in the high jump competition. He secured the gold medal and cleared the second-place jumper’s top height by six inches. Woods was also part of the Cards’ 4X100m relay team that included Jayden Dillard, Cristian Reyna and Ty’Vone Whitehead. They claimed the bronze medal in the event after a photo finish just ahead of fourth-place Palacios. Whitehead had a strong day individually outside of the relay races. His high-point was the silver medal in the 100m dash, and he also contributed a bronze-placement in the triple jump competition. His sixth-place finish in the long jump also contributed points to the team’s total score. Josafat Galvan represented the Cards in the longer distance races, taking fourth place in the 1600m race and fifth place in the 800m race.
