The Weimar Police Department held a ceremony promoting a former Sergeant to Lieutenant last Thursday, Feb. 20 in the city hall council chambers.
Weimar P.D. employee Joshua Jones was promoted from Sergeant to the rank of Lieutenant in front of family and department heads that afternoon.
Weimar Police Chief Mark Jameson had the honor of promoting Jones to Lieutenant, with attendees celebrating a reception following the ceremony with snacks and a special dessert, a cookie cake made by Diamond W Sweets.
Lt. Joshua Jones was born in Columbus and knew from a young age that he wanted to be a police officer. Lt. Jones graduated from Wharton County Junior College Police Academy and started his career as a Reserve Patrol Officer in 2014. His commitment and commendable performance quickly landed him in the role of Patrol, Detective, and eventually, Assistant Chief of Police at the San Felipe PD. During his tenure, Lt. Jones has played numerous roles within various departments, including Patrol, Corporal, and even Lieutenant.

In 2023, Jones felt called to move back home and was thrilled to accept the Sergeant position at the Weimar Police Dept. Lt. Jones contributes a wealth of knowledge in law enforcement and the ability to navigate complex challenges to guide troops effectively. He was on the Board of Directors for the Crisis Center, which dedicates resources to combating crimes against women and children. He also served on Multi-agency Discipline Teams and Sexual Assault Response Teams. In his free time, Lt. Jones enjoys spending time with his growing family. He mentioned that it’s a privilege to be part of his children’s journeys to offer guidance, and he cherishes the simple joys of watching them blossom into unique individuals. Lt. Jones’ passion for helping others in some of the worst times of their lives and seeing them succeed past the trauma and pain drives him to put the badge on every day. He aims to lead the new and seasoned officers by example.
