County to hold public hearing on speed limits

COMMISSIONERS COURT

Reject all bids on revitalization project

Colorado County Commissioners voted to hold a public hearing regarding proposed new speed limits for County Roads 210, 211, 213, 260 and 270 at their commissioners’ court meeting on Monday, Feb. 24.

The public hearing will be set for the next commissioners court meeting on Monday, March 11 at 9 a.m. in the county courtroom at the Colorado County Courthouse.

The entire lengths of County Road 210, 211 and 213 were proposed to be potentially changed to maximum speeds of 40 miles an hour.

County Road 270, south of the county line was proposed to be set at 35 miles per hour. County Road 260 from State Highway 155 west to the county line at was additionally proposed to be changed to 35 miles per hour.

Lastly, Blacksmith Lane, the entire length of the road, was set to be changed to 35 miles per hour. All the proposed speed limit changes are within Precinct 2 Commissioner Ryan Brandt’s jurisdiction.

Additionally, commissioners voted to reject all bids received for the Colorado County Courthouse maintenance repairs project and they authorized a request to rebid the project with a reduced scope of work.

Colorado County Judge Ty Prause felt that all the bids that came in were either too high or the companies who submitted them were inexperienced, enacting to take caution with whomever the bid is awarded to due to the historic nature of the work being done.

“We just think they were too high and or did not have enough experience or knowledge about historic preservation and the restoration that we have to be mindful of,” said Prause. “It’s a recommendation of the engineers and our architects to go out and solicit more bids.”

The next Colorado County Commissioners court meeting will be held on Monday, March 10.
