Raider boys’ basketball season ends in 2nd round of playoffs

The Rice Raiders had a very tough game Saturday, Feb. 22 in Cuero against the Cole Cougars, but that didn’t stop them from giving it their all.

The Cougars came into Saturday’s game ranked 11th in Texas Division 3A while the Raiders were 56th.

The Raiders gave it everything they had, but in the end, came up short with a final score of 5748.

Rice finished a fantastic season; one they will remember forever. Senior Dyren Johnson was the top scorer of Saturday’s game with a total of 17 points. Johnson snatched up 12 rebounds as well to give him a double-double in Saturday’s game.

Other scorers included: Robert Bennett, Dneriyan Fuller, Ta’Marion Turner, Deveron Bennett, Jon Woods and AJ Jenkins.

All in all, the Raiders had 35 rebounds, 13 steals, 4 blocks, and 8 assists.

According to Max-Preps, the Raiders finished the season ranked 61st in Texas Division 3A teams.

The Raiders finished the season with an overall record of 23-8.

“It was a lot of fun,” senior power forward Paul Valles shared as the season concluded. “I’m going to miss the practices and games.”

“I’m thankful for the brothers I’ve made during my four years of Raider basketball,” senior center Willem Burger said.

Raider stats for the 24-25 basketball season Junior Robert Bennett came out as the top scorer for this season with a mind-blowing 513 points. Second behind him in points was Jon Woods with 362 and then Ta’Marion Turner with 239.

Bennett had the highest percentage of free throws with 58-109 FT (53%) and had the most assists with a total of 176.

The top two Raider rebounders were Dyren Johnson with 211 rebounds and Deveron Bennett with 199 rebounds.

Johnson also had the highest number of blocks with a total of 25 blocks.
