Lady Cards eliminated by West Oso

The Columbus Lady Cardinals season came to an end last Tuesday in the third round of the playoffs.

The Lady Cards were defeated by the West Oso Lady Bears by a score of 71-41 in the Regional Semi-Finals.

It was a lack of offensive production int he second half of the game that led to the Lady Cards being eliminated from the playoffs. They scored only 12 points in the second half of the game and were handed a 30-point loss because of it.

The first half of the game was as good as it could have been for the Lady Cards. They were not leading when Halftime came but they were competitive and kept the score close.

By the end of the first quarter the Lady Cards trailed by only three points as the Lay Bears held onto a 19-16 lead. The offense was humming and the Lady Cards looked just as competitive as they normally are.

Sure, they were trailing but this team has dug out of deeper holes before. The hole got a little bit deeper by halftime as they were down by seven with a score of 36-29 in favor of the Lady Bears.

Seven points is not a small lead, but it is not a big lead either. The lady Cards still had a big opportunity to get themselves back into this game. Unfortunately, the offensive production from the first half did not carry over.

In the third quarter the Lady Cards were outscored 24-6 which brought the score to 60-35. What was once a seven-point lead has now turned into a 25-point lead for the Lady Bears.

At this point the writing was on the walls for the Lady Cards, because while they had dug themselves out of deep holes, this one was just a little too deep. The offensive struggles continued in the fourth quarter where they were outscored 11-6 to bring the final score to 71-41.

The loss was a tough pill to swallow but the Lady Cards are still a young team that will be looking to make an even bigger splash in the playoffs next year.

Anaya Gardner brings the ball up the floor for the Lady Cards on a fast break.
