Wildcats win Bi-District Championship

The Weimar Wildcats defeated the Granger Lions 42-40 to win the Bi-District Championship.

It was a close and tightly contested game for the entire four quarters and the Wildcats had to deal with a little bit of adversity to get the job done.

The game started with an eventful first quarter that ended with a score of 10-6 in favor of the Wildcats. It was a good start for the Wildcats, and they wanted to build on that start in the second quarter, but the Lions were not going to make it easy.

The Lions offense came back in full force in the second quarter and outscored the Wildcats to carry a 19-17 lead over the Wildcats into halftime.

During halftime the Wildcats were at a crossroads, because last year’s team would have come out to start the third with not a whole lot of energy. But this year they chose a different path and came into the third quarter firing on all cylinders.

Coming out of the break the Wildcats offense roared back with a big third quarter and outscored the Lions 12-5. This allowed the Wildcats to recapture the lead, 29-24, going into the fourth and final quarter.

In the fourth quarter the fans came to life and added some more emotion and passion to the game. The Wildcats’ defense was the story in the fourth quarter because their offense scored 13 points to extend their lead, but the defense did just enough to come away with the Bi-District Championship.

The Wildcats played a great game and were rewarded with the Bi-District Championship because of it and now set their sights on the Area Championship.

Sammy Hernandez contests a shot.
