2025 ELECTIONS
Candidate filing for any Board of Trustees or city council positions across the three county school districts and towns has officially closed, with the last day to file for a place on the general election ballot having been last Friday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m.
Columbus ISD will not be holding an election this year as the three open positions only saw the incumbents file to keep their current places.
Those Board of Trustees positions (three) are currently held by Board Secretary Dorothy Wostarek, Board Member June Schobel and Board Member Ryan Thomas.
Weimar ISD will also not be holding an election this year as the three open positions only saw the incumbents file to keep their current places.
Those Board of Trustees positions (three) are currently held by President Steve Williams, Board Member Joni Van Houten and Board Member Jeremy Maupin.
Rice CISD will be holding an election this year. The Board of Trustees positions currently up for election are held by President Jason Pausewang, Position 4, running unopposed and Secretary Bridget Belman, Position 5, running against Anthony Johnson.
Weimar, Eagle Lake and Columbus all have city council positions up for election or re- election.
Columbus is the only town amongst the three in Colorado County to have no new candidates file in, thus leaving all positions uncontested and cancelling the Columbus city council election in May.
The uncontested positions that were up for re-election this year were Mayor, currently held by Lori An Gobert, Place 1, currently held by Keith Cummings and Place 2, currently held by Ronny Daley.
Weimar city council positions that are uncontested in the upcoming election are Place 1, currently held by Becky Roberts and Place 5, currently held by Kurt Scardino. Current Place 5 councilman Roy Ulrich did not file for re-election.
The Place 5 seat will be contested between Ronell Wilson and Stephen Helmcamp.
Eagle Lake have the seats of current councilmembers Rene Cooper, Jim Wood and Chris Parker up for contention. Randy (Randall) Turner is the only candidate who is a non-current councilmember to file for a potential position.
Election day will be held on Saturday, May 3. The last day to register to vote will be Thursday, April 3, with early voting beginning on Tuesday, April 22 and ending on Tuesday, April 29. The last day to apply for a ballot by mail will also be Tuesday, April 22.
