Columbus man recognized as Texas A&M Regents Fellow

The Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) Board of Regents recognized Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) Operations Program Director Jordan Brod as a 2023-2024 Regents Fellow Service Award recipient, presenting the award on Thursday, Feb. 6.

The award was presented by TAMUS Chancellor John Sharp, Board Chairman Bill Mahomes, and Board Vice Chairman Robert Albritton.

The Regents Fellow Service Award Program was established in 1998 to recognize extension, service, and research professionals. Each year, this award is given to individuals who have provided exemplary professional service that has created large and lasting benefits to Texas and beyond.

Brod joined TVMDL in 1999 as a student worker in the histopathology section and advanced through roles in laboratory management, quality assurance, and facilities management before assuming his current position in 2021.

As Operations Program Director, Brod oversees TVMDL’s facilities, information technology (IT), client supply resources, laboratory support services, and shipping. In all facets of his role, Brod ensures the success of others by mitigating potential issues and addressing any that arise despite his preventative measures.

His efforts to support IT and shipping are broad, yet critical in serving TVMDL’s employees and clients. Much of his daily tasks revolve within managing TVMDL’s state-ofthe- art facilities, including biosafety level 2 and biosafety level 3 laboratories. Brod is considered a subject matter expert on TVMDL’s facilities.

In his tenure, he led the agency’s efforts to design and construct TVMDL’s 93,000 sq. ft laboratory in College Station and the 22,000 sq. ft. laboratory in Canyon. In addition to these new facilities, Brod regularly leads improvement projects across the agency’s four laboratories.

In the 57 years since TVMDL was established, the agency has experienced countless achievements and milestones. With Brod having served the agency for almost half its existence, he has been instrumental in TVMDL achieving many of those accomplishments.

Brod is the son of Frances and the late Marvin Brod of Bernardo. He graduated from Columbus High School (1996) and Texas A&M University (2000). Brod lives in College Station with his wife, Christie and two children, Dylan and Clayton.
