Weimar VFW meet for regular meeting

The Weimar VFW Auxiliary to Post 5875 met for its regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 11 with 14 members present. The meeting was opened according to the ritual by President Charlene Muras.

Emails were read by President Charlene Muras regarding membership, donations to the scholarship fund and reports. Thank you notes were read by Secretary Marty Heinrich from the VA Hospital in Houston for the Christmas cards and from the National Home for a recent donation.

There are currently 13 annual members and 23 life members for a total of 36 members.

Veterans and Family Support Chair Dolores Lauck reported that at the Men’s Coffee at Parkview on January 17 there were 10 veterans, eight residents and three auxiliary members present. Patriotic Instructor Jeanette Koenig reported that 327 Valentines were mailed to hospitalized veterans, seven books were purchased for Patriotism Through Literacy, flag etiquette for kindergarten kids will be the last week in February, certificates of appreciation will be handed out each month to businesses that display the US flag, school kid art contest instructions have been given to schools, and Read Across America is set for March 7.

Members are encouraged to volunteer at the Food Pantry at the Methodist Church on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 8:30 a.m. There will be a bake sale outside Kaspers and MG on April 12 if the date is confirmed.

Jeanette Koenig encouraged members to fly the US flag last Saturday, Feb. 15 Sinking of the USS Maine and last Monday, Feb. 17 for Presidents Day.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 11 at 6:00 p.m. at the Weimar VFW Hall kitchen.
