The Columbus Cardinals and Rice Raiders will be sharing the District Championship this season, with the Cards being the District Champs in Division 1 and the Raiders being the District Champs in Division 2.

Columbus and Rice were crowned the Co-District Champions after The Cards defeated Industrial and the Raiders defeated Palacios.

Columbus @ Industrial, W, 69-53 The Cards offense had a little bit more life in this game as they had two players score double-digit points and two players have double-digits in rebounds. Rigdon was the top scorer again for the Cards with 26 points and close behind him was Camdon Pitchford with 18 points for the Cards.

Rigdon also hauled in 10 rebounds to add a double- double in a district game to the list of things he has accomplished in his senior season. Pitchford also had a strong game with eight assists in the contest.

Rylan Carruthers was the other Cardinal to have double-digit rebounds as he recorded 10 rebounds against Industrial. The efforts of these three as well as the rest of the team helped push the Cards to their 12th district win, a District Championship and a playoff spot.

The Cards played in the Bi-District round of the playoffs on Tuesday, Feb. 18, against Goliad looking to lock up the Bi-District Championship.

Rice vs Palacios, W, 48-40

The Rice Raiders’ season was one full of excitement and it was capped off by winning a District Championship.

The Raiders finished the season with 12 wins to their name and only two losses. Their 12th came against Palacios in the final game of the year.

Against Palacios the Raiders defense struggled at times. They had a hard time tracking plays and it led to some open looks for Palacios.

The defense eventually found their groove and started to slow down Palacios’ offense. This opened up the floor for the Raiders offense to take over this game.

With the depth of talent on the Raiders offense it did not take them long to recapture the lead. Led by Robert Bennett, Jon Woods and Dyren Johnson the Raiders offense took control of the game Once they had the lead the Raiders defense, led by Deveron Bennett tightened up even more and they cruised all the way to a District Championship.
