Lady Cards win Bi-District and Area Championship

The Columbus Lady Cards defeated Nixon Smiley to win the Bi-District Championship and then took down Hondo in the Area Championship.

The Lady Cards offense was flying high in both games, but it was their ability to do the little things right that helped them win these games.

Bi-District Championship

The Lady Cards won this game 64-42 with their defense playing a big factor in the outcome of the game. The Lady Cards defense started the game strong and suffocated the Nixon-Smiley offense.

The defense forced several turnovers that led to points for the Lady Cards. The defense kept their foot on the gas for the rest of the game and their offense fed off of it.

Led by point guard Anaya Gardner the Lady Cards offense was knocking down shots from all areas of the court. Not only that but they did an excellent job of collecting points at the free throw line.

Free throws are never easy and sometimes are the deciding factor in games, so for the Lady Cards to handle their business at the free throw line helped them collect the Bi-District Championship.

With the Bi-District Championship under their belt the Lady Cards looked ahead to the Area Championship against Hondo in Seguin.

Area Championship

The Lady Cards carried the momentum of the Bi-District championship win over into the Area Championship where they defeated Hondo 70-45.

The score reflects just how dominant the Lady Cards were Friday night in Seguin. Defensively the Lady Cards forced several turnovers that led to points early in the game.

The Lady Cards offense was just ass aggressive against Hondo, they drove to the basket with purpose. They did a great job of making a high number of simple layups during the game and also handled their business at the free throw line.

With strong performances on both sides of the court the Lady Cards found themselves with a 56-26 lead going into the fourth quarter. With such a comfortable lead, this allowed Lady Cards head coach Mike Albers to sub in his reserve player to play the entire fourth quarter.

It is always good to get those players minutes especially in playoffs games because you never know when you are going to need them.

The Lady Cards have made it through the first two rounds of the playoffs and have their sights set on round 3.
