The Weimar Wildcats are heading back to the playoffs after they finished in third place in the district standings.
The Wildcat finished with an 8-4 record with their last win and loss in district play coming in their last two games against Louise and Ganado.
Vs. Louise, W, 75-16
There’s nothing better than to win a district game on home court and it feels even better when it is a blowout win.
Gives the fans in attendance something to cheer about and also enjoy their evening without having to stress about their team losing. The Wildcats won this game by playing solid defense, rebounding and simply just scoring.
They did not do anything too flashy, they just showed up and played the game they wanted to play and came away with a victory. Offensively they wanted to move the ball around and create open looks and they did that.
Defensively they wanted to be aggressive, force turnovers and force Louise to take bad shots. They did that too and they did it for four full quarters and it resulted in a huge win for the Wildcats.
This win was big because it helped the Wildcats lock up third place in the district, but they still had one more game against Ganado before they celebrate their playoff berth.
@ Ganado, L, 60-49
This game proved to be much more difficult than the Lousie game, but it was a good test before entering the playoffs next week. Ganado is always a thorn in the Wildcats side and this time was no different.
Ganado is also the fourthplace team in the district, so they had a chip on their shoulder matched up against the team just above them in the standings. They wanted to make a statement heading into the playoffs and there’s no better way to do that than beating a district rival in the last game right before playoffs.
As for the Wildcats the loss did not affect their position in the standings, but it may have hit their confidence. To go from riding high to losing to a district rival can weigh on the mind a lot but the Wildcats are battle tested and will put this loss behind them quickly and focus up for their firstround matchup, playing against Granger on Tuesday, Feb. 18, in Giddings.
